Today we have a huge amount of apps focused on health and fitness, of the most varied. Some serve “only” as a step counter; others to monitor our sleep. It is also not difficult to find more complete apps. They allow you to monitor more than one thing at a time, such as steps, calorie-burning, exercise, etc. we will discuss what is apple health? In theory, the application has come to add the features; we can imagine that most will offer this support. The concept behind Health, then, is very interesting and useful.
Apple health app
The app itself is divided into four parts: “Dashboard”, “Health Data”, “Sources” and “Medical Record”.
The “Medical Record” is nothing more than a place for you to put your most important information (some vital).
In case, you have an accident on the street or become unconscious and need medical attention. With everything properly completed, the “* Medical ID” option appears when someone touches “Emergency” (on the device’s Lock Screen).
There, even with the device locked; you can call the emergency contact. You can know your blood type – very important data in the event of an accident or something.
Of course, the person who comes to the rescue needs to know that this card exists. But, Apple has played the role of making it available on the iPhone.
You may have some apps you have installed on the iPhone that provide or pull Health app data. You can also control this under Settings »Privacy» Health. But, Apple thought it best to also place this option inside the app to make things easier.
The Health Data tab lists * all * the information that can be tracked by the Health app. There are two ways you can monitor these items:
- Through any app available from the App Store, or
- Entering data manually.
By tapping on that data, we have four options available:
- All Data (where we see everything that has been tracked since that item)
- Add Data Point (where we add information manually)
- Share Data (where we can also adjust the interaction of the Health app with a particular app)
- Show in Dashboard (by enabling this option, the data in question appears in the Dashboard tab).
The Dashboard, as you can imagine, is where all the data you highlight is listed on the Health Data tab. You have the option to view the information by day, week, month, or year.

How to use the apple health app
Check out the following steps to use or set up the Health App:
The Health app is one of the big news from iOS 12.3. It brings together all your health and lifestyle information in one place. With it, you can track your heart rate, get nutrition tips, and create personalized medical records. The app is part of the latest version of iOS. It uses data from other health apps you download on iPhone. See how to use.
Step 1. The app’s “Dashboard” shows you an overview of your health data. You can view the selected information by day, week, month, or year.
Step 2. Under “Health Data” you can see important health and lifestyle information. You can track body measurements, nutrition, fitness, sleep, and more.
Step 3. You can add any and all of these data to your dashboard. Just open whatever you want and slide the key to the right under “Show in Dashboard.”
Step 4. In “Sources” you will find all devices and applications that can send data to “Health” of iPhone. To control and select which apps will have access to your health data, go to Settings> Privacy> Health.
Step 5. You can now create a medical record on your iPhone with important health information for emergencies. Click on “Medical Record” to create one and then “Edit” to fill in information such as date of birth, weight, height, blood group and emergency contact.
Step 6. With your chip ready, you can choose whether to show it on the lock screen by swiping right to activate the function.
Step 7. When the screen is locked, slide the key to unlock and tap “Emergency” in the bottom left corner. Then tap on “Medical Record” to access it without unlocking the screen.
Step 8. The app will keep all your health and lifestyle information gathered simply and efficiently in one place and under your control. The user is responsible for deciding what information to share or not with the tool. All data will be encrypted for the passcode when you lock the device.
Step 9. You can also back up all data stored in the Health app to iCloud. If you use the cloud service, you can back it up with iTunes by selecting “Encrypt iPhone Backup” on the “Summary” tab.

Important things to do with Apple Health App
Although we still have to enter some data manually, the Apple Health app greatly helps preventive monitoring of some diseases. There are other apps that connect with Healthcare. It helps you need a lot of information like sugar level, calories consumed/consumed, uric acid and more. Below is an idea of how it works.
Configure health data – Open the Health app and go to Health Data to check and set up the details that the Health app has collected. You can also edit your profile, view your medical record, and add the categories you want the Health app to record.
To get started, touch a health and fitness category and download the suggested app.
Track health and fitness app data – the Health app itself records your steps and walking and distances of running. You can include other categories to the Health monitor app:
- Tap a category, for example, Activity to see a video and see optional applications that can assist you to start.
- Download a recommended app to monitor and bring together details for this category.
- Once you have installed it, open and set it up to send information to the Health app.
- Open the Health app and go to Fonts, then the app. Activate the data categories you like to track in the Health app.

Set up heart rate monitor via Bluetooth – You can monitor health information such as heart rate via Bluetooth monitor. Use Bluetooth to attack your heart rate monitor with your Apple device. Then your accessory information is itself uploaded to the Health app.
To view heart rate information, in the Health app, touch Health Data> Vitals.
Collect Apple Watch health data – After you set up an Apple Watch, it itself sends activity information to the Health app on iPhone.
To see data about your movements, workouts, how long you have been standing, and your goals, tap Health Data and then Activity.
To view your heart rate information, touch Health Data, then Vitals, and Beats.
To see Breath app data, tap Health Data, then Full Attention.
Track bedtime – The Clock app can assist you to make a good bedtime habit. Set the time you like for sleeping every night, and the Clock app will ring a bell for you on time and sound a morning alarm.
To set Bedtime in the Clock app:
- Open the Clock app and go to Bedtime.
- Tap Get started and give the answer to some questions, for example, sleep hours you need every night and wake-up time.
- When you are done, tap Save.
To view Bedtime data, go to Sleep in the Health app.
See your daily activity progress – Tap Today to check statistics for the day. To view health data of another day, tap a date on the calendar.
Tap any item, such as Steps, to check more details. You can press harder using 3D Touch to see more details about this metric.
You can also set any metric as Favorites, so that, it displays on top in Today screen.
Enter health data on your own – Want to include your health info after discussing with your doctor? Just do these steps:
- Touch Health Data and a category, such as Vital.
- Touch a data type, such as Blood Pressure.
- Tap on.
- Enter the date, time, and activity data.
- When you are done, tap Add.
Import and view your medical record – Typically, a medical record contains information such as medicines, vaccines, test results, and more. If you receive a medical record in a ZIP or XML file, you can import it and store it in the Health app.

How to deal with multiple sources of a given data
You can have multiple applications that monitor the same thing (for example, steps).
To prioritize one of them, you must first tap on the Steps panel and then choose the Share Data option. Note that, there is an order in Data Sources. By tapping on Edit (upper right) you can reorder these sources, the first one being prioritized.
For starters, Apple could already point out some apps that support Health as soon as the user opens the app for the first time. It does this, for example, in the Passbook, indicating applications that use the ticket, boarding pass, coupon, etc.
But, the thing is so strange that even for users who already have apps built into Health, when you open the Apple app you don’t see any information.
It would be much more interesting if when connecting a sleep monitoring app to Health.
For example, the system already gave the option to highlight this data in the Dashboard tab. But no, you are required to enter the Health Data and manually activate everything you want to see in the Dashboard.
Social bias is essential for this ecosystem to function. Imagine that you are on that diet and managed to lose 10kg! Or that you prepared for a long time and managed to complete your first marathon.
A lot of people love to share this kind of Achievement, but for the sake of health, it doesn’t happen. For now, no sharing graphics or specific information on social networks – many may think the “Shared Data” option is for that, but no.
The interaction with the app also leaves something to be desired. After monitoring some data for a certain period, all you have is a graph with a lot of information.
Apple does not help us interpret this in any way. It would be great, for example, if the user could tell what they want to do to have a healthier life.
For example, you can set the goals (losing 5kg in 2 months; taking 10,000 steps a day; or sleeping 12.3 hours a day) and the app can offer some kind of suggestion.
So that the task could be accomplished (avoid some kind of food; walk 30 minutes a day; go to bed early). But no, all you have is a chart without any interaction and motivation.
Also, there are flaws. I, for example, wear the UP bracelet and monitor my sleep for it. Still, the data captured by the official Jawbone app will not go to the Sleep Analysis panel at all. It could be an Apple API issue; it could be an issue with the implementation of the UP app… it doesn’t matter.
What matters is that the data does not go to Health, even though everything is properly connected.
Navigating through the hundreds of options that are available in “Health Data” is also pretty boring. There is clearly a design problem here. I don’t know how Apple can – and will – solve this. But the truth is that the design chosen for the app does not play in favour.
